| • INAFI Bangladesh has launched client level Financial Literacy Training as part of BASUG-INAFI Bangladesh Remittance Project. One partner organisation of this project Shakti Foundation for Disadvantaged Women (SFDW) has organised client level training on Financial Literacy at Dohar Upazilla of Dhaka district on 3 August, 2009. Mr. Rashed Al Hasan, Project Manager(Remittances); Mir Joboyda Ferdous Chowdhury, Technical Officer; and Mr. Rashedun Nabi, Technical Officer of INAFI Bangladesh Remittances Project attended in the training as resource persons. Among others Mrs. Syeda Obaida Haque, Director; Mr. Moiz Ahmed Chowdhury, Deputy Director; Ms. Ummey Salma, Acting Enterprise Development Officer(EDO); Ms. Rawnak Jahan Snigdha, EDO; Mr. Anwar, Area Supervisor; and Branch Managers of Shakti Foundation were present during training. Total 38 participants participated in the training. The participants have cordially accepted and valued the training. They have reported that this type of training will be helpful for them to invest remittances in different financial instruments and enterprise development. |

| • INAFI Bangladesh jointly with Bangladesh Support Group(BASUG), The Netherlands
have organised a conference on Remittances titled ‘Harnessing Development Potential of Migration: Enhance Formal Channel of Remittances Transfer and Productive Investment of Remittances’ on 29 July, 2009 (Wednesday) from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm at BRAC Centre Inn. The Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Atiur Rahman was the Chief Guest of the conference. INAFI Bangladesh has been implementing a project titled BASUG-INAFI Bangladesh Remittance Project jointly with BASUG. The project is supported by OxfamNovib, Netherlands. The target clients of this project are Bangladeshi migrants staying in Europe and their family members staying in Bangladesh. BASUG is implementing the project in Europe and INAFI Bangladesh is implementing in Bangladesh through its 3 partner organisations UDDIPAN, Shakti Foundation and WARBE. |

| • INAFI Bangladesh has organised a Discussion Workshop on ‘Tapping Returnee Migrants’ with SME Services: Prospects and Challenges’ on 29 June, 2009 (Monday) at 09.30 am at BRAC Centre Inn. The main objectives of this workshop are to inform the participants about our Project and how we are addressing returnee migrants through MSME services and how to extend the services to more returnee migrants; to orient the participants about the present constraints faced by MSME clients and collect expert opinion from the participants to overcome the constraints; to make aware the participants specially to banks, donors, SME Foundation, PKSF about the constraints faced by the project clients and how to overcome these constraints; and to develop possible partnership with different stakeholders like banks, donors, SME Foundation, PKSF to link the clients for MSME financing. |

• Mr. Robert Smith, Challenge Fund Manger, RPCF visited during client level training of 4 partner MFIs (Shakti Foundation at Pallabi, Dhaka on 8 February 2009; Uddipan, at Borura Comilla on 15 February 09; SSS at Mirjapur, Tangail on 18 February 09; and POPI at Bhairob Bazar, Khishoreganj, on 17 March 09). Mr. Atiqun Nabi, Executive Director of INAFI Asia and Bangladesh was present during some visits. Mr. Rashed Al Hasan, Project Manager (Remittances); Mr. Rashedun Nabi and Mir Jobyda Ferdous Chowdury, Technical Officer, INAFI Bangladesh Remittances Project were also present during visit. Moreover, Project Management Committee (PMC) Member from partner MFIs, other senior staffs, and Enterprise Development Officer of partner MFIs were present during visit. Mr. Fakhrul Islam, Financial Analyst, RPCF visited client level training of Padakhep at Sreepur on 11 February, 2009. |

• INAFI Bangladesh has organised Training of Trainers (TOT) courses on ‘Migrants’ Enterprise Development’ for the staffs of partner MFIs. Total 109 staffs of 5 partner MFIs have participated in TOT (UDDIPAN 36 staffs, Shakti Foundation 24, POPI 24, Padakhep 16, and SSS 9 staffs). INAFI Bangladesh has recruited two professional trainers, who are senior trainer of BRAC and have enormous experience on training. The trainers have developed Training Materials and conducted TOT for partner MFIs staffs. TOT has been organised in 4 batches. INAFI Bangladesh staffs, RPCF staffs, and also PMC members of partner MFIs have joined during opening and closing session of TOT training. |

• Mr. Clemens Wennekes, Programme Officer, OxfamNovib, Netherlands and his colleague Mr. Johan Ashwienkoemar visited Bangladesh from 17-18 December, 2008. Mr. Clemens and Mr. Ashwienkoemar visited INAFI Bangladesh Remittances Project field at Shakti Foundation Pallabi Branch. Among others, Executive Director of INAFI Asia and Bangladesh Mr. Atiqun Nabi was present during field visit. Mr. Rashed Al Hasan, Project Manager(Remittances); Ms. Mahbuba Haque, Programme Manger, INAFI Asia; and Mr. Rashedun Nabi, Technical Officer were also present during field visit. • INAFI Bangladesh Remittances Project titled ‘Institutional Support for Productive Utilisation of Migrant Workers Remittances’ has gained wide attention in the Global arena of Migration and Development. Recently European Commission and United Nation jointly initiated a project titled ‘EC / UN Joint Migration and Development Initiative’. The project arranged ‘Migration for Development Knowledge Fair’ in Belgium from 1-5 December, 2008 to expose the best practices on Migration and Development Globally. In this regard, they asked for Expression of Interest Globally to identify and select the best practices on Migration and Development. INAFI Bangladesh participated in the expression of interest and INAFI Bangladesh Remittances project was selected to participate in the knowledge fair. Mr. Rashed Al Hasan, Project Manager (Remittances) participated in the Migration and Development Knowledge Fair and presented paper on INAFI Bangladesh Remittances Project. • INAFI Bangladesh was invited to share about INAFI Bangladesh Remittances project titled ‘Institutional Support for Productive Utilisation of Migrant Workers Remittances’ in International Forum on ‘Microfinance, Remittances and Social Impact of Migration’ held at Asian Institute of Management (AIM), Philippines from 24-25 October, 2008. Mr. Atiqun Nabi, Executive Director of INAFI Asia and Bangladesh made presentation on INAFI Bangladesh Remittances Project. Mr. Rashed Al Hasan, Project Manager (Remittances) also participated in the forum. |
